SWEET ALICE,

GRAM PA HAS THIS VERY CUTE PICTURE OF YOU

ON HIS DESK AT WORK. YOU HAVE YOUR HEAD

RESTING ON YOUR HANDS, EYES CLOSED AND

SLEEPING SO PEACEFULLY. YOU LOOK SO

CONTENTED!

“CONTENTED”

NOW THERE’S A WORD TO DIG DEEPER INTO.

DEFINITION:   BEING SATISFIED WITH THINGS AS

THEY ARE.

IN YOUR LIFE ALICE,

THERE WILL BE TIMES WHEN YOU ARE

SATISFIED WITH THINGS JUST AS THEY ARE.

AND

THERE WILL BE TIMES WHEN YOU ARE NOT

SATISFIED WITH THINGS AS THEY ARE.

AND

THERE WILL BE TIMES IN YOUR LIFE WHEN YOU

CAN CHANGE THINGS WHEN YOU ARE NOT

SATISFIED

AND

THERE WILL BE TIMES WHEN YOU ARE NOT

SATISFIED IN YOUR LIFE AND YOU CAN’T CHANGE

THINGS

NOW YOU MAY THINK THE MOST BENEFICIAL

TIME IS WHEN YOU CAN CHANGE THINGS WHEN

YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED.

BUT THE TRUTH IS ALICE,

YOU WILL LEARN

MORE ABOUT LIFE AND MORE ABOUT

WHO ALICE

IS WHEN YOU ARE NOT SATISFIED

AND WHEN

YOU CAN’T CHANGE THE FACT THAT

YOU ARE NOT

SATISFIED.

BUT FOR NOW, JUST BE AS CONTENTED AS YOU

CAN BE!

LOVE YOU,

GRAM PA

Circle of LIfe

Sweet Alice,
Lala and I spent last weekend with you. We watched your momma and daddy make a cake and they watched me make what we call in the family, “quick sauce”…but we cook it for about three hours to really make it good.
So our weekend centered round loving you, watching you, holding you, kissing you…and…
Cooking some good food!
All in all it was a very simple weekend of just being together with folks we love and sharing a meal together.
You seemed to enjoy it but then again you didn’t have much choice. It’s not like you could get up and leave when you wanted to.
There will come a time Alice when you can just up and leave and go do your thing. There will come a time Alice when the kind of weekend we had last weekend will just simply be boring to you.
But then there will also come a time in your life Alice when you can’t wait to come home and have a weekend just like we just had.
Circle of life?
Truth is it may come sooner than later in your life because your mother and daddy already understand the beauty of simplicity. They already understand the wonderful aspect of just being. You pay attention to the way they “just be” Alice and you will have learned a very valuable life lesson.
I can’t wait to “just be” with you again sweet Alice.
Love,
Gram Pa

Help Me To Remember

HELP ME REMEMBER
(FOR BOTH OF YOU)
Pictures, pictures, pictures!
I look, I smile, I cry.
Time seems to be passing so quickly for me.
But it truly is what it has always been.
How ironic!
Living longer seems to make life feel shorter.
And I know some of these feelings come because of the physical distance between us.
And there you both are, completely unaware of time in this way.
The only time you know is this very moment.
How I wish I could help you to see how quick this life is,
How quick time can seem to be!
But then again, you both are my teachers, unaware!
You are here to remind me of something I have forgotten.
What wonderful spiritual gifts you are!
Please, remind me over and over again,
What it is I am to remember.

Love,
Gram Pa

Welcome Home Sweet Alice

Sweet Alice,
Wow, what a road trip you had for such a young fingerling! I know you got lots of love and attention! But there really is no place like home. That place where routine becomes routine. That place where you can really let your hair down. That place where you can just be you.
Truth is Alice is that you should learn to just be you no matter where you are. You should learn how to just be "at home" with Alice being Alice.
You might say, "How can I be anything but Alice?"
Well, there will be so many pushes and pulls in your life, trying to lure you into being other than who or what you are. Some call it "trying to fit in", some call it "peer pressure", some call it "wanting to be liked".
I promise you that if you will just come to love and like who Alice really is all that pushing and pulling will have no affect on you.
And one of the places you can always come to for that kind of experience is HOME. Just where you are right now Alice.
So welcome home Alice. We love you just the way you are!!!

Love,
Grampa
